There a few of us who are going down the Caliente Post office to do this local favorite 44 mile ride this Saturday, Feb 13th.

We're meeting at my house at 8 am (21209 Stage Drive) carpooling and should be down at the Post Office around 8:45. So if you'd like to just meet us at the Caliente post office, please do.

My phone is: 822-1571 or my Cell: 972-0628.....

Bring some money. 16 miles from the finish We'll have lunch at the "Schoolhouse" Cafe

Below is the route description from the Kern Wheelmen site ( www.kernwheelmen.org/routes.php )

Course: Lion's Trail loop, from Caliente

Description: This ride is usually done clockwise, however I gave hill stats going both directions in the ride profile starting at Caliente Creek Post Office, the Lion's Trail climb begins just three miles down the road.

Go left at the Y.

Lion's Trail is one of the most challenging climbs in Kern County. It is a 6.7 mile climb averaging 7.5% gradient. If gravity is your enemy then this climb could take you an hour and half to complete.

The fast downhill into beautiful Walker Basin passes by Rankin Ranch and a old cemetery. A steady climb up to the fire station is accented by a short and steep(15%) hill. The long downhill follows the Caliente Creek through Caliente Canyon. The Canyon is breathtaking and has been ravaged by sever floods over its history. The past years the road condition have improved. The road ends up at the Y. Continue back to the Caliente Post Office.

Miles: 44

Elevation Gain: 4333

3D Map: Yes

Profile: Yes

Rating: Difficult
